The members of the various film bodies and the State government are in talks over the contentious issue of 10 per cent local tax on cinema.

Sources say the government is ready to come down from 10 per cent to 8 per cent besides accepting the demand from theatre owners to have two different rate slabs for AC and non AC theatres outside Chennai.

However the office-bearers of various film associations are insisting for a 5 per cent tax. Sources say that an amicable solution is expected to be arrived later today.

However a couple of days ago, the State government denied any pals to withdraw taxes. As a result, a series of discussions were initiated.

Sources say that government eventually agreed to reduce the tax to 8 per cent, which the industry feel is still too high. They expressed their desire to settle down for 5 per cent.
