A Magistrate Court at Saidapet in Chennai on Tuesday sent Hansraj Saxena, chief operating officer (COO) of Sun Pictures, which is part of the Kalanithi Maran-owned Sun TV Network, to two-day police custody for interrogation in connection with a cheating case.
Saxena was arrested by Chennai city police Sunday on charges of cheating and intimidating film distributor T S Selvaraj. The police have been directed by the Judge to bring Saxena before the court July 7.
Meanwhile, a section of the film producers in Chennai has been celebrating Saxena’s arrest since Monday. They welcomed Saxena’s arrest as a “big relief to the Tamil film industry” and alleged that he prevented the release of many movies.
The small-budget filmmakers also issued a statement thanking Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for initiating police action on the cheating complaint against Saxena. ‘We suffered a lot so far. Now we are breathing easy,’ they said.
