The Video Piracy Cell of the State police has confirmed the identity of Gowri Shankar as third administrator of TamilGun.com, ending confusion that prevailed since his arrest last evening.

The Video Piracy Cell Inspector Durai has taken in-charge of the case and it is expected that Gowri Shankar will be formally arrested before this evening. ‘A search hunt has been launched to arrest the other two administrators of the online portal's, police said.


A multiple theories were circulated over his identity initially he was pinned as an administrator of another torrent site, Tamilrockers.com.Surprisingly, both Tamilrockers.com and TamilGun.com took to the Twitter to refute the claims.

Sources said that video piracy team belonging to Tamilnadu Producers film council is in the process of setting up its base at every district to nib video piracy from the face of the society.

'One such team was set up in Tirupattur some months back. The team posed as persons involved in piracy racket and built a good rapport with Gowri Shankar, who owns a browsing center in the town.

The team supplied few film DVDs to Gowri and sought his help to write in a compact-disc. Also, the team captured the whole process with a video recorder to lend credence to it', sources said.


The team promised Gowri Shankar to visit Chennai to receive a master copy of a brand new flick, he added.'A meeting was convened at a producer's office located at Triplicane High Road last evening.

The team alerted the police when they were in the middle of the conversation', police said.It is said that police is investigating the case based on the complaint given by Rajshekar, a member of producer's council.
