AR Rahman bags top honour at National Awards

Though Tamil cinema was overshadowed by Malayalam and Marathi movies in the 65th National Film Awards declared today, music composer and Mozart of Madras A R Rahman brought joy to Tamils by winning two awards — Best Background Score for Mom and Best Music Director for The awards were decided by a jury headed by renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.

The 10-member-panel comprised screenwriter Imtiaz Hussain, lyricist Mehboob, actress Gautami Tadimalla and Kannada director P Sheshadri among others. He brought laures to the nation winning two Oscar, two Grammy, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe before.

He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 2010 by the Government of India.
